Assessment of Growing Media and Fertigation for Production of Root Pruning Splice-Grafted Cucumber Seedlings

In the Republic of Korea, root pruning splice-grafting method is commonly used on watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) and cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seedlings to produce grafted plants. The growing medium an important factor for rooting a transplant. this study, we investigated shoot growth development in different media. ‘Shindong’ as scions were onto ‘Shingiwon’ bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) rootstocks using root-pruning one-cotyledon method. transplanted into five media: commercial (CGM), rockwool (RW), LC grow foam (LC), RC (RC), terra-plug (TP). We also effect fertigation plant Root morphology was significantly influenced by all total length, volume, surface area greatest CGM. However, inorganic media (RW, LC, RC) resulted low growth. Fertigation increased growth, especially affected seedlings. CGM TP medium, which had good development. conclusion, with advantageous showed promise use seedling stage.
